About
The Bird Perch was created in March 2017 on Facebook. The main function of my page is to share my love of birds by sharing close-up photos and videos of my feathered friends in Kalamazoo, Michigan! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!
How do I capture these photos?
To capture these fun, closeup photos of the birds in my yard, I am using a system called a Bird Photo Booth. The “booth” part of the system is a weather resistant box with a macro lens. A small GoPro-like action camera sits inside the box, behind the macro lens. The camera can be set up to use motion detection. When the camera senses a bird, it can take a burst of up to 10 photos. On the front of the box, there is bracket that holds a food bowl in front of the macro lens. This combination brings out the closeup details of these lovely birds!
What camera am I using for the Live Stream video?
I am using something called a Birdsy video camera. Currently, the camera is still in the testing phase. The Birdsy cam is an HD, weatherproof, surveillance-type video camera. What makes it even better is that it is equipped with Artificial Intelligence and is able to identify the birds that visit! All video is stored on a cloud so the camera does not require a memory card. The camera operates on your home WiFi and video is accessible via phones and tablets from remote locations.
